Ethernet transport system supporting delay-sensitive real-time traffics
نویسندگان
چکیده
We propose and demonstrate an Ethernet transport system that can support hard real-time traffics with guaranteed throughput and very low jitter performance even in the presence of asynchronous traffics. The superframe structure-based Ethernet system first synchronizes all the nodes in a network by using the IEEE 1588-compliant boundary clock scheme and then reserves the traffic channels for synchronous traffics before accommodating both synchronous and asynchronous traffics in the superframe. Our experimental demonstration performed on field-programmable gate array-enabled Gigabit Ethernet test benches shows that the proposed scheme not only guarantees the throughput of the synchronous frames but also substantially reduces the jitter of the synchronous frames less than 110 ns after seven-hop transmission. Overbooking in Mobile Backhaul
The rapid increase of mobile data subscribers and deployment of broadband radio access networks push mobile operators to upgrade their mobile backhaul from expensive legacy TDM transport to carrier Ethernet for cheaper operational expenditures. The Metro Ethernet Forum has defined a set of Ethernet Virtual Connection services that are adopted to provide scalable Ethernet transport for mobile ba...
متن کاملDesign optimisation of cyber-physical distributed systems using IEEE time-sensitive networks
In this study the authors are interested in safety-critical real-time applications implemented on distributed architectures supporting the time-sensitive networking (TSN) standard. The on-going standardisation of TSN is an IEEE effort to bring deterministic real-time capabilities into the IEEE 802.1 Ethernet standard supporting safety-critical systems and guaranteed quality-of-service. TSN will...
متن کاملSwitched Real-Time Communication for Industrial Applications
An important trend in the networking community is to involve more switches in the networks (e.g., LAN, Local Area Networks) and pure switched-based networks becomes more and more common. At the same time, the industrial communication community has a strong will to adapt LAN technology (e.g. Ethernet) for use in industrial systems. The involvement of switches does not only increase the performan...
متن کاملCan Critical Real-Time Services of Public Infrastructures Run over Ethernet and MPLS Networks?
— With the adoption of Ethernet-IP as the main technology for building end-to-end real-time networks, the requirement to deliver high availability, quality and secure services over Ethernet and MPLS has become strategic. Critical real-time traffic is generally penalized and the maximum restoration time of 50 msec. sometimes is exceeded because of devices hangings or the high delay to find an al...

This paper suggests a CSMA/CD compatible MAC protocol for real time transmissions in a Home or Small O ce Local Area Network. The protocol allows high priority devices transmitting real time tra c such as digital video and audio to communicate with each other with guaranteed low delay and jitter, across an existing Ethernet, which is supporting standard Ethernet devices such as PCs, printers an...
